HYDERABAD: In its bid to ensure hassle-free ride to the airport at Shamshabad, the state government has hit upon a plan to construct an expressway flyover connecting the airport to the city.

<div class="section0"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-size:="">HYDERABAD: In its bid to ensure hassle-free ride to the airport at Shamshabad, the state government has hit upon a plan to construct an expressway flyover connecting the airport to the city.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">The government had thought of a dedicated train to carry air travellers but the huge cost involved in making it a reality and the distant possibility of any private participation, are forcing the administration to explore other ways of reducing the problems for air travellers.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">According to government sources, an elevated road, most probably, a flyover would be constructed between Mehdipatnam and airport having a distance of about 14 km.

This is expected to cost over Rs 500 crore and likely to be taken up on built operate and transfer (BOT) basis, it is learnt.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">The vehicles will have to pay the toll tax like in many other foreign countries. Entire distance between airport and Mehdipatnam could be covered in about 10-15 minutes and in another 15 minutes time, the passengers can reach the city. It does not take more than half an hour for air travellers to reach here.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">The government is of the opinion trains would never become substitutes for the four-wheelers, since cab drivers render personal service to passengers, while in the case of travel by train, the travellers have to carry their own baggage.</span></div> </div>
